Hi,
I live in Russia, but my dream is to live and work as a swimming coach in Australia.
I have been working as a swimming coach for over 8 years and one of the best coaches in Moscow.
Would you like to complete your studying, is there an online studying? Also tell us what courses you have and how long they take, in what form.

Definitely, when to eat!! And what to eat.
I find that grabbing bites in between sessions is tricky, because there is not enough time to sit quietly...and definitely coffee...too much coffee
Often sessions start too early to eat before ..and so the cycle goes around and around!!
No naps in the day... as time doesn't allow...oh dear!
And definitely sleeping too late, ..
"Work less, " they say..
But how do you do that and still earn a living!!

Thanks for your constructive feedback Jonny, however you have missed many of the key points of the article, and introduced your own issues . A majority of athletes, families and coaches have a very enjoyable association with the sport and take on the challenge to improve their swimming and their life skills. I'm not sure where you swam but it doesn't sound like you were supported very well, which is a shame. We all have different experiences.

Hi Mick, Yes that makes it very difficult at larger meets where athletes may finish warm up and then have to wait an hour or longer until they race. Wearing warm clothes and staying hydrated will help.

Exercise research says that if you finish your warm up more than 20 minutes prior to your race you may as well not have warmed up at all. How does this align with current practices at local club swim meets?

So swimming requires you to be more of an athlete than any other sport? You are stupid. All sports require a balance of training & recovery, plus a balance of real life. Training at 4:30am before school is reckless for an abundance of reasons. Main stream sports drive to develop successful young men and women… not so much swimming. A sport so arrogant they deliberately try to hold these young athletes back from being their best selves outside of swimming! Btw. I swam year round and played D1 soccer.

Wow this is so timely for me. This has inspired me to know with confidence that we have been doing the right things.

Sometimes you are not sure but quietly continue.

Many thanks to Paul Kent for referring me to Gold Class Swimming. The learning, sharing and resources provided are totally invaluable.

This article is truly inspirational. It is a light toward a successful pathway in competitive swimming from learn to swim to living to swim.
